Anxiety

Anxiety.

For moms and dads:

It can be said that there is a direct relationship between poor management of the situation by the parents and the worsening of crying in the baby with colic.

For healthcare professionals:

It is very frequent that a bad management on the part of the parents regarding the baby with colic can add to the increase of crying.
However, it cannot be affirmed that poor emotional management on the part of parents can be one of the causes of colic.

Several studies relate the socioeconomic factors and the mother's anxiety.

(Crowcroft NS, Strachman DP. The social origins of infantile colic: questionnaire study covering 76,747 infants. BMJ. 1997; 314: 1325-8)
(Carey WB. The effectiveness of parent counseling in managing colic (commentary) .Pediatrics. 1994; 94: 333-4)

In general, NASPHAG, the American Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, considers the following:
The most effective treatment is time and patience. Parents and other family members should take turns taking care of the baby. Baby massage, soothing music and wrapping can help the days go by for a baby with colic. Seek medical attention immediately if your baby's behavior or body language changes or suddenly begins to vomit. Infants with colic are a challenge for most families and often caregivers become impatient and frustrated. Please seek help or take a break. Often irritable babies are victims of child abuse — NEVER SHAKE YOUR BABY!
