Alterations of the intestinal microflora

Alterations of the intestinal microflora.

For moms and dads:

It is more than likely that there are alterations in the intestinal microflora, specifically, a smaller amount of Lactobacilus in babies with colic. So we can affirm this as another possible cause of your baby having colic. In the section of Treatments and results We will talk more about Probiotics.

For healthcare professionals:

There is a significant difference in the intestinal microflora of babies suffering from infant colic and those who do not.
It is very likely that there is a smaller amount of lactobacillus.
On the other hand, the finding of Lactobacilus brevis and Lactobacilus lactis lactis in babies with colic has led to think that they may be associated with their pathogenesis.

Other more recent studies have studied, by molecular methods, the colonization patterns of coliform bacteria that produce gas in babies with colic and in healthy children, both breastfeeding groups.
After this study, it is discovered that there is more abundance of coliform bacteria (and especially Escherichia Coli), in babies with colic.

Although these data are revealing and shed more light on the cause of childhood colic, it is still unclear whether these differences in intestinal microflora are more a consequence than the cause of colic.
